What is Reiki?
Reiki, pronounced: “Ray Key”, is a form of healing touch, a laying on of hands, energy realignment, or spiritually guided (Rei) life force energy (Ki). It can become a spiritual path or help clarify a spiritual path you are on.
Reiki addresses energetic disturbances in and around us and helps the body, mind, and spirit find balance by clearing out static congestion.
A treatment can be a few minutes to an hour and brings a state of relaxation that is the gateway or opening through which healing begins. This is the perfect way to spoil yourself!
Treatments are individually tailored. The practitioner rests hands on specific areas of the body (head, torso, legs, etc.) or just off the body, allowing energy to pass into the client.
The recipient remains fully clothed at all times.
Reiki does not challenge or conflict with any religious belief systems. Reiki may be used with other treatment modalities, and will enhance the healing experience. Recipients may experience different sensations: a feeling of clearing out or shifting as energy redistributes, tingling, warmth. Some fall asleep.
Lay practitioners have used Reiki for more than 90 years, and its popularity is growing. A study indicated that in 2006, over one million adults in the US received one or more Reiki sessions. Physicians and nurses are recognizing its value and provide it in hospitals, medical clinics, and hospice programs.
They indicate that Reiki reduces stress, decreases the need for pain medication, improves sleep and appetite, and accelerates the healing process.
They also indicate that Reiki reduces many of the unwanted side effects of radiation and drugs, including chemotherapy.
- Release energy blocks
- An increase in energy
- More motivation and focus
- A positive mental attitude
- Reiki detoxes the mind and the body
- Acceleration in the healing of wounds (both physical and mental)
- Prevention of ill health
- More rapid and gentle healing from surgery
Clearly, Reiki can be beneficial, and if so, consider how wonderful it can be on a regular basis to develop a sense of well-being and impart the kind of relaxed states that keep you feeling vibrant, peaceful, and functioning at your highest level!
I am interrested in learning reiki. Are there any schools in the Toledo area that teach this practice?

Most Reiki classes are taught by individual practitioners who have reached the level of Reiki Master Teacher and have the inclination to teach. There are not Reiki schools as such, although there are Reiki Centers such as William Rand’s Center near Detroit.
I am available at Kneading Time and privately for Reiki training. Please contact me if you have an interest in this as I set up a class when a student is ready to commit to the process.
